Clos BastéClos Basté is a family-owned estate located in the heart of the Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh appellations in Southwest France. Founded in 1998 by Chantal and Philippe Mur, the domaine was built around the restoration of the historic Maison Basté and a collection of exceptional old-vine parcels planted on the region's finest clay and limestone soils. From the very beginning, their ambition has been to produce wines that faithfully express the unique character of their terroir, guided by respect for nature, careful observation, and a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship rather than interventionist winemaking.
Today, Clos Basté is recognized as one of the leading estates of Madiran, producing certified organic wines that combine power, elegance, and remarkable balance. The vineyards are farmed organically, with hand harvesting, low yields, and meticulous vineyard work to ensure perfectly ripe fruit. In the cellar, gentle extraction, native yeast fermentations, and thoughtful ageing allow the traditional Tannat grape, along with Cabernet Franc and the classic white varieties of Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, to reveal their full personality. The result is a collection of authentic wines that reflect both the strength of the Madiran appellation and the precision and finesse of the Mur family's winemaking philosophy.

Madiran Esprit de Basté A beautifully balanced introduction to the Clos Basté style, Esprit de Basté is crafted primarily from Tannat with a touch of Cabernet Franc, offering both depth and freshness. Aromas of wild berries, dark plum, and gentle spice lead to a full-bodied palate with supple tannins and impressive structure. Rich without being heavy, it is an authentic expression of Madiran that is equally enjoyable in its youth or after several years of cellaring.
Pacherenc Sec 2024 Made from equal parts Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu, this vibrant dry white captures the freshness and minerality of the Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh appellation. Bright citrus, orchard fruit, and delicate floral notes are complemented by a generous texture and crisp, lively finish. A wonderfully versatile wine, it pairs beautifully with seafood, poultry, fresh cheeses, or simply as an elegant aperitif.
Madiran 2022 Produced entirely from Tannat, Clos Basté Madiran 2022 is the estate's flagship red and a superb example of the appellation's ageing potential. Intense aromas of blackberries, black cherries, licorice, and subtle toasted oak unfold into a powerful yet refined palate, where concentrated fruit is supported by polished tannins and remarkable length. Structured and elegant, this is a wine built for the cellar, while already offering exceptional complexity when decanted.
